‘Believe in recovery’: Sober living facility opens in Lowell, honoring former resident
She received her LMHC in 2012 and in 2015 became the Clinical Director at The Megan House working with young women who suffer from substance use disorder. In 2023 Kim returned to a career in the public school system as a School Adjustment Councilor. The Men’s Recovery Home has provided substance use disorder treatment to individuals struggling with addiction since 1972. The program continues to provide critical housing and supportive services to men in early recovery.

Pamela Huntley was named Executive Director of The Megan House Foundation on July 1, 2019, after serving in the role on an interim basis since January of the same year. She first became involved with the organization by attending their annual Gala, a fundraising event which raises funds to help with the program and services provided to the residents of Megan’s House and Erin’s house. She served on the board of Directors for over two years until accepting her current role. The organization began back in 1971 as a home for men who were looking for a place to stay on the path of sobriety while dealing with their alcoholism. LIV RECOVERY is dedicated to providing a safe, supportive, drug and alcohol-free environment for women to build a life of sustained recovery. A New Hampshire native born and raised, who attended local schools and graduating with a bachelor’s in Communication and Business from the University of New Hampshire in Durham, NH.

A Lowell Native and current Dracut resident, Catherine Casey is the Assistant Vice President of Financial Wellness at Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union. She has been with Jeanne D’Arc since 2010 when she began her career as a teller at the Lowell branch. She has since navigated through various positions within the Credit Union, including Lead Teller, Assistant Branch Manager, Branch Manager, and now AVP, Financial Wellness. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Curry College, majoring in communication with a concentration in journalism and minoring in business management, graduating Magna Cum Laude. Since then, Ryan said they’ve developed programs for those struggling with substance use disorder, and Emma’s House is one step forward in making a difference. The home took a village, as well as a collective lot “of blood, sweat, tears and cash,” said Robert Gignac, chair of the foundation’s board of directors.
Gorham StreetThis is a great house with a small group of people who really have an incredibly strong “stay sober” attitude. Located a minute’s walk to the train station and just blocks from downtown Lowell. For Emma, Megan’s House “gave her back hope,” Jim Franchek said, and to have this new residence carry his daughter’s name is both an honor and an opportunity to keep her spirit alive. Emma Franchek came through the program in early 2016, and Murphy remembers her kindness, beauty, sense of humor and, above all, her youth.
The rebrand comes after a year of interviewing staff and community partners and bringing in a third-party agency to help develop the brand. The board voted unanimously to transition to Riverbend at their September board meeting which also welcomed three new Directors to the board. It’s located on a quiet side street with plenty of parking, it has easy highway access, and it’s just around the corner from the train.
